
Shingo Goto, PhD
Shingo Goto is a Professor in Finance at the College of Business Administration at University of Rhode Island (URI). Dr. Goto previously conducted asset pricing and portfolio management research at Barclays Global Investors (BGI) as a senior principal on the Active Equity team. He also sat on the BGI Research Approval Committee as a voting member.
Dr. Goto’s research encompasses numerous areas within investment and portfolio management. Dr.Goto is also actively involved in the practice of portfolio management. He specialized in quantitative stock selection methods and industry and factor timing models while at BGI; he continues his practitioner research focus today serving as an advisor to Rayliant Global Advisors (HK), Research Affiliates (Newport Beach, CA) and Nomura Asset Management (Tokyo, Japan). Dr. Goto’s research has appeared in the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting.
Dr. Goto received his Ph.D. and MBA from the Anderson School of Business at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and his B.A. from University of Tokyo. He also won the 1988 Tokyo Feather-weight boxing title.
